A friend had shown me this really neat rock that she and her husband had picked up in Texas many years ago. I was messing around taking pictures of it from different angles and varying degrees of closeness--I almost deleted this one from my camera when the thought hit me, "this is very abstract looking", so I saved it for this theme.

What a great photo. I'm glad you didn't delete it! The color is spectacular and I love the way the light plays inside.
I asked in the Rock Paper Scissors post where had you gotten a green rock. What it looks like to me is glass - melted glass. Or some sort of obsidian - which is volcanic glass. My late FIL used to be a lapidarian - working of gemstones - and a rock hound. My late husband also did some in that area as well. My kids grew up noticing rocks, picking them up out of the driveway showing me the pretty rock they had found! :D But I've forgotten most of what I used to know about rocks.
Iona, my son thought it looked like obsidian also--I didn't know if it came in any color but black. The area where this rock was found was Deleon, TX.
Yes, obsidian is generally dark - black with brown shot through it or a very dark brown. But have never seen a translucent green rock before. I googled green rock and came up with this link

which suggests that it could be quartz. I also googled the town it came from thinking maybe this was a rarity and the town could be known for its green rock - without any results.
You people Know NOTHING it is obvious it is "KRYPTONITE" from the exploded planet Krypton, you should destroy it before Lex Luthor comes looking for it. Get with the programme Guys.
Super abstract!
I don't know racks at all but this is a fine photo, glad you kept it.The light bouncing around is great!
Lovely abstract in that rock, whatever it is.
very cool close up on the rock
If you discover what type rock it is, I hope you'll post the name for everyone to see. The photos are superb and perfect for the Abstract theme. Now, aren't you glad you didn't delete it?
