#79 Rock, Paper, Scissors (Theme #263)

As long as I had such a cool rock to work with, I decided to give the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" theme a try. The index card is a 3x5, the scissors the scrapbooking kind that makes wavy cuts--all on a couple paper towels on my friend's kitchen table.

#78 Abstract (Theme #6)

A friend had shown me this really neat rock that she and her husband had picked up in Texas many years ago. I was messing around taking pictures of it from different angles and varying degrees of closeness--I almost deleted this one from my camera when the thought hit me, "this is very abstract looking", so I saved it for this theme.
This is the whole rock--if anyone knows what kind it is, please let me know. It is transparent--looks like colored glass--but it much to big to be (probably weighs a couple pounds).

#77 From Ground Level (Theme #111)

There were several trillium blooming around the spring--this is as close as I could get.

I looked through my pictures again and found these two that were closer shots than the one above.

#76 Spring (Theme #300)

There is a natural spring not far from our house (a mile or so). Someone put the pipe there to capture the water as it runs out of the rocks.
There is no city water system for much of this end of the county, people rely on wells, many of which are shallow or sulphur-y. So, lots of people come from all over this area with jugs, barrels, and water tanks to fill up for free.

This is the stream of water as it comes from the rocks and flows into the upper end of the pipe.

#75 Green (Theme #129)

A day late for St. Patrick's Day, but I'm catching up! I thought I drive around a bit today since it was so beautiful out and see what I could get pictures of. I passed this field of very green grass--they must have fertilized it as our yard is still a patchy brown and green. It will probably produce a very nice hay crop in May.

#74 Go Fish! (Theme #123)

My son and I took a walk today down to our other pond (not the one the Pileated Woodpeckers live by, but on the other side of our land). There to our surprise was a birdseed bag floating in the water (wind must have blown it there). So, Travis "fished" it out of the pond with a long stick (and put the bag in the trash on the way back to the house).

I've Been Tagged

I’ve been hooked into a game of blog tag. Here are the rules: Go to your photo folder on your computer. Go to the 6th folder of photos. Go to the sixth picture. Put the picture on your blog and a description of it. Invite six friends to join the challenge. Link them in your blog.

So, here goes:My sixth picture folder has pictures from our trip to Roan Mountain in January. The sixth picture is a drive-by shooting of a church we passed on our way from Roan Mountain to Asheville, NC to visit my aunt.

You’ve been TAGGED! I hope you’ll join in!

#73 Trio (Theme #339)

This is our trio of dogs. Snoopy (my son's dog) is in the sweater. Doobie (my daughter's dog) is on the left, and Metu (my dog) is on the right.

#72 Holes (Theme #150)

I knew we had Pileated Woodpecker holes in a sycamore tree down by the pond behind my dad's house (next door to us--on our land). So, I went down there today hoping to get a picture of them. The sun was right behind them and I couldn't really see what I was shooting--just hoped to get an in focus picture. After scrambling through the underbrush for a while--trying to get close enough to get a shot, I wandered to the other side of the tree...where I found this pair of old holes (last season, maybe--they look like the edges are not as freshly drilled as the pair on the other side).
I tried to get the whole tree to show how high up they were, but this was as far as I could get and still have the holes visible. They are probably at least 40 feet up in the tree--the newer holes are slightly higher.
